Pat McAleese was born in Newmarket on 27th June 1986, and grew up in nearby Soham with his parents, two older sisters and a younger brother. With boxer Paddy McAleese for a Dad, the sport has always played a big part in his life. As a youngster Pat had a fiery, quick temperament, which didn't go too well with his other sporting love – football. After trials with Ipswich Town and Cambridge Utd, Pat decided he'd had one red card too many, and at 15 years old, boxing became his preferred talent and an undeniably effective way to channel any aggression.
With his natural ability and technique, Pat had his first fight at 16 years old, and went on to a series of amateur fights in which he reached the semi–finals of the NABC and the ABA Championships. He also took the Eastern Counties Championships title two years running, and boxed for England against Italy, winning him his England vest.
His idol is British boxer Ricky Hatton, with whom he shares an uncanny ability to gain weight when not in training, giving Pat his "Phat" nickname. Pat now makes sure he is in constant training to keep his technique polished and his weight stable.
Having now turned professional, Pat is going from strength to strength, has a strong and loyal fan base who follow him to all his fights, and is always looking towards his ultimate goal of winning the British title.
